Fertile Ground and New Growth: Dreaming in the Plant Realm
Fabric, vinyl, metal armature, w14’xh8’xd3’, 2021.
In this piece, Fertile Ground and New Growth: Dreaming in the Plant Realm, I utilize soft sculpture to examine another aspect of care in an idea I coined 'world softening.' I love the comfort and malleability of fabric as a material to create larger-than-life sculptures and transformative installations. I drew inspiration for this piece from resilient plant life, plant nurturance, and the interconnectedness of ecology. I want to give sincere thanks to Pokeweed, Witch Hazel, Yellow Lady's Slipper Orchids, Dragon's Mouth Orchids, and Turkey Tail Mushrooms for being endlessly inspiring through their wisdom, healing attributes, and inherent beauty.
